National Rarities' August Employee Spotlight

For this month’s spotlight, we want to introduce you to Chrissy Vogel, our Estate Specialist, GIA AJP! Read on to learn a little bit about Chrissy.

Tell us a little about yourself and your training?

Growing up in Saint Louis, I attended a small private school that gave me the opportunity to be involved in a little bit of everything. While enjoying sports and student government, I also had a real passion for working with the theater department in creating sets and finding props to fit the time period of the play or musical. This led me to attend many estate sales and antique shops. I became fascinated with antiques of any kind including toys, jewelry, clothes, accessories, and furniture. While studying finance in college, I worked in retail and customer service, but still attended estate sales in my free time. I am truly grateful to have found a job that lets me incorporate my passions into daily life!

The job changes day to day, tell us about it!

While in the office, my day-to-day consists of researching and reselling items, helping our shipping department, and any other various tasks needed that day. One of my favorite things to do is work with our marketing department in gathering event information, including the advertisements we run. While traveling for events, we work closely with the jewelry store owners and their customers. It is always exciting when customers tell us their stories and the history of the items they bring in.

What is your favorite thing about working at National Rarities?

What I enjoy most about working at National Rarities is traveling alongside different buyers to our events across the nation. I enjoy checking out the local restaurants and attractions of that city. Most recently I went on a trip to Oklahoma and was shocked to find that there is a gorgeous state park called Gloss Mountain.

What is your favorite piece that you have purchased or sold? Is there a story behind it?

My favorite piece that we have for sale right now are these Iridesse Tiffany & Co rose diamonds and pearl mesh drop earrings. The unique convertible design features a large South Sea Pearl that holds the cascading triangular mesh curtain of varying shaped rose cut diamonds. The design is a jacket style, so you can wear the pearls alone or enhance the jacket with another stud earring of your choice. The exceptional craftsmanship and design come from the company Iridesse by Tiffany & Co. and unfortunately is no longer available. Founded by Tiffany & Co. in 2004 and named after the inspiration of the iridescent play of color and light on the surface of a pearl. They closed their doors in 2009, making these designs rare.
